With the Labor Day Holiday weekend for next weekend Saturday 8/30/25 through Monday 9/1/25, we will cancel the VoIP Hurricane Prep Net to allow Amateur Radio Operators to enjoy the long weekend with friends and family. As always, if a hurricane were to threaten a land area, which is not expected at this time, we would active the net in support of WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center. Tropical Storm Erin is now Hurricane Erin. Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the Atlantic near the Cabo Verde Islands. Erin will slowly intensify over the next couple of days before undergoing more significant intensification in the 3-5 day period. Erin is expected to reach hurricane status later this week and major hurricane status in about 5 days or so. Erin’s current track is currently expected to be over the open ocean waters of the Atlantic over the 5-day period so no VoIP Hurricane Net activation is expected in this timeframe currently. Thereafter, it is extremely uncertain whether the track will be out to sea not affecting land, potential impacts to Bermuda and/or the Canadian Maritimes or to areas of the US East Coast. We won’t have those details until later this week or this weekend at the earliest. Tropical Depression (TD) 3 has intensified into Tropical Storm Chantal. Chantal is expected to intensify more as it approaches the coast of South/North Carolina but, at this time, this system is not expected to become a hurricane so no VoIP Hurricane Net activation is currently anticipated but we will continue to monitor Chantal closely. Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches are posted for portions of the South Carolina and North Carolina coast.
